On Thursday, July 23, at approximately 1706hrs Upper Macungie Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a truck fire in front of Heather Glen Senior Living, located at 415 Blue Barn Road. Engine 57 and Commissioner 55, returning from a prior call for an MVA, arrived on scene and found a shredder truck in the parking lot adjacent to the nursing facility with light smoke showing. Engine 57 crew deployed an attack line and began extinguishing the smoldering fire, with the assistance of the shredder truck operator. Tanker 8 arrived second due and supplied Engine 57 with water. Additional crews later arrived and assisted in removing the shredded paper and ensuring the fire was out, along with ensuring no smoke had entered the adjacent nursing facility. No injuries were reported and all companies took up a short time after. A special thanks to the members who responded from UMT Bureau of Fire, Station 8, Station 25, Station 56, Station 57 and the Station 57 Staffing Program.
