| Yesterday, Upper Macungie Township Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident with rescue.
Upon arrival, crews located a single SUV resting on its side down an embankment approximately 20 feet below the roadway. Firefighters quickly stabilized the vehicle and began rescue operations. Due to the position of the SUV, crews performed a roof flap to safely access the patient.
Firefighters then utilized a rope haul system, known as a “Z-rig,” to carefully raise the patient up the embankment and transfer them safely to awaiting EMS personnel. Rescue efforts were complicated by the patient’s weight and fresh snow, which created challenging footing and operating conditions. Despite these obstacles, crews worked efficiently and professionally to complete the rescue without further injury.
In addition to this incident, Upper Macungie Township firefighters responded to seven other calls for service throughout the day, demonstrating their continued dedication to protecting the community.
Safety Reminder: Slow down and adjust your driving for winter conditions. Snow and ice can significantly reduce traction and increase stopping distances. |
